Weed eaters are tools or machines that remove harmful weeds on your grass or plants. Although weeds can be removed manually with your hands, it can be a tedious task. Weed eater machines can perform the task more quickly and easily. There are three basic types of weed eaters depending on the power source: electric, battery-powered and gas-powered.
Electric weed eaters are the most common and popular because it is very easy to start. You just plug it in an outlet and it is ready to use. For those who plan on getting this, make sure that the work area (garden) is near a power outlet. If not, you will need an extension cord. Electric weed eaters are preferred by some people because there are no batteries that need to be replaced. It works quietly and as efficiently as other types also. Using it does not disturb the neighborhood.
With battery-powered weed eaters, the only glaring disadvantage is that you need to prepare one or two extra sets of batteries as backup. Otherwise, if the current batteries on the machine suddenly run out in the middle of your work, it will be a hassle. Other than this, battery-powered weed eaters are better alternatives to work areas not anywhere near a socket or power outlet. The battery powered weed eaters are also handy in times of power interruptions. Also, without the hassle of cords, these machines can be dragged practically anywhere, even reaching the sides of the work area farthest to the house.
Gas/oil weed eaters is obviously powered on gas or oil to function. However, you need to mix the oil to the gas to be able to refuel it. This type is more heavy duty and is used more often for large work areas, like a garden in a mall or big buildings. The motor of gas and oil weed eater is often noisy and might be irritating when used in residential areas. But this type works more efficiently compared to the portable types (electric and battery operated weed eaters).
If you plan to buy a weed eater, any of the three types is okay to get. It will just depend on your personal setup at home or in the work area to gauge which type is the better option for you. Also check your budget. But the more important thing to consider is the power of the machine, be it run on electricity, battery or gas. The output and efficiency of your job really depends on the power.
Another factor to consider is how you will manage the tool. Some are more comfortable in portable and hand-held machines. Others prefer the bulkier and stand alone types. In other words, the size you will get is a matter of personal preference.
Also, aside from the common basic functions of removing weeds, these machines also vary in features. Some have anti-vibration handles. It reduces fatigue when held. Other machines also have ergonomic handles that contours perfectly to your hands. You might also want to consider getting a unit with a quiet engine to avoid disturbing your neighbors. Also choose one with low emission.
A weed eater with primer bulb is easier to start. If the machine has double blades, it can get the job done more quickly. A weed eater with variable speed trigger lets you control the speed more precisely, depending on the amount of weeds needed to be removed. Weed eaters are very useful in any home or landscape with plants or grass. It keeps the green areas healthy.
